Dropshipping with Emerald Computers

I am going to write to you today about the truths of the dropshipping industry, what to do and even what not to do to make money in this business.
Dropshipping is the business of selling an item from someone else's inventory. In a nutshell you simply advertise the item, you collect payment for the full amount and then send the order information along with the wholesale amount to the vendor, the vendor then sends the product directly to your customer. You never carry any inventory and you never even see the item. If there is a problem with the item the customer usually deals with the vendor. Blind dropshipping is where the customer does not know that the vendor even exists, all the invoice and labels simply say your business name. In this example Emerald Computers will be your "Vendor".
In recent years many people have made a fortune with this business model. You can be a "pure" internet company, all you need to do is make a good site that sells various items, advertise your site to drive traffic to your site and take orders, making money while you sleep. The problem is that this entire process is harder than it sounds. First you have to figure out what to sell. There are many people doing drop shipping, so this makes the market more competitive. You simply can not buy a website from a company that sells thousands of items, mostly items that most people don't need and few people want and hope that it can be successful. Much more is needed.
First you need to sell something that people buy online every day, (Computer Hardware is very high on this list.) Then you need to make a site that will really sell these items. It is hard to compete with the entire world when selling any item, when you do this you are really only competing on service, website appearance, but most of all price. If you keep lowering your price to match your competition soon there will be nothing left for anyone. The answer is to personalize your website, to make your website stand out. One easy way to do this is to make your service local, advertise to your local customers, still over 60% of Americans do not like making large purchases online, so for these 60% of the population your only competition is your local competition, and if you are the one with the best website and the best service you will win their business. Most people who search online to buy a computer do a search with a local geographic term in it. To make your site local you need to have business hours where people can call you. But you also can no longer sell 10,000 items because how would you know everything about all of these, and if you don't know you will lose sales. Our solution again is to sell computer hardware.
Here at Emerald Computers we have reduced our unique items down to 3 systems and about 200 parts that are the most common parts that people buy. Any more and it would be too complex for most customers. This is our niche, and if you want to get into this business I suggest that you follow suit. I suggest this mostly because when you focus it is easier to get the result you want, which is to make money. You can learn about all of the products in just a day or two and you will be able to speak with knowledge to others as you work to get sales and drive traffic to your site.
Most people who I have talked to who have been in the dropshipping business have had limited or no success. I think that this is mostly due to a lack of understanding of how to market on the internet. Most of these people are business people they are net marketers or web designers. But it really takes all three to be successful. You need to have a savvy business person, a good web designer and a internet marketer, it is rare to find all three in one person so it is usually necessary to hire out the parts that you are weak in. If often takes people a year or two to discover this, I hope I just saved you that time.
What usually happens is that smart business people see all the money being made online, so they decided that their business must be online to keep pace with the rest of the world. All they know is that they need a website, and if they don't already have something to sell then they need that also. They do a search and find a places out there that can build a website, but most website programmers know little about how to build an eCommerce site, so they keep looking. They keep looking at all the huge costs and start to get frustrated, but they remember that this is the future, that they can make a ton of money online VERY soon. After a while the find a company that seems to have it all together,but the problem is that this company wants thousands of dollars for them to put you online. Most of the time does not even include the products, it simply includes a eCommerce compatible website. They must then enter the hundreds or thousands of products into the website or hire someone to do it. Some other companies include thousands of products that you can select, and put them online, the problem here is that only a few companies do this and most of them have THOUSANDS of people trying to sell their products, making it hard for you to stand out.
Computers are a great product to sell for a large number of reasons. First it is a large industry, 100's of billions are spent every year. Can you say that about the other items you are thinking of selling? Next it is an industry that buyers buy a large percent of the purchases online. It is also an industry where people like service, and local service is best. People search online, but usually buy locally. I have found with our existing dropshippers that they have sold more than 90% of their products within 50 miles of their home. Next, computers are fun and exciting, over 90% of households have one, 60% have 2 or more, and over 50% of households plan to buy a computer in the next year. Now just think that households only account for 30% of sales in the computer industry, businesses buy the rest and you will quickly see the massive number of computers you could be selling. What if you could sell even 1% of the computers to everyone who lives within 50 miles of you? You would probably be a quick millionaire.
Now that you know you want to sell something online, I hope you are seriously thinking of selling computers. The next thing you will need is a high quality customized website. A customized website is the KEY to online marketing, cookie cutter websites are ignored by the search engines, and if it is not custom then how will you attract local customers? You can do this yourself or you can choose to have Emerald Computers do this for you for a very minimal charge. The next thing you will need is a database of products. Once you have this site the last thing to do is to market your site. This is one of the most important parts of the whole process.
